Event details

Stars are the everlasting companions in a clear night sky. Shining brightly for ever unchanged, especially such stars as the brightest ones in well known constellations such as Betelgeuse in Orion. But what if they fade? What if this were the precursor of them exploding in a spectacular supernova? Could this happen?

In 2020 Betelgeuse, the 10th brightest star in the sky, became exceedingly dim so that anyone looking at it could notice the decline in brightness easily. This sparked much debate and the discussions included if this star would now explode. Much work has been done over the past years and in his talk Betelgeuse - A Supernova coming soon? Dr Daniel Brown (NTU) will be giving us an overview of what happened. He will also give us some insight into how we can find out more, the current observational data, and what we think might have caused this dimming.

Booking is required for this event while attending in person. While attending, you consent to filming, photography, and sound recording – which may include you as a member of the audience – and its use in publication or advertising distribution, either printed or online, without payment or copyright.
