Event details

Only recently did we predict the entry of a 1m sized asteroid into Earth's atmosphere, giving local authorities a few hours warning of location and time. But how good are we really in predicting asteroid impacts? And what can we do if we spotted one?

Earth has and will be a constant target for rocks from space. Humanity has survived so far, but the more we start to explore our solar system, the more we realise how vulnerable we are. Join Dr Daniel Brown (NTU) in his talk Duck and Cover - Predicting Asteroid Impacts where he will outline how we predict possible impacts and how we spot dangerous asteroids. He will explain if we can ever know about all possible threatening asteroids and what we might be able to do if we had enough prior warning.

Booking is required for this event while attending in person. While attending, you consent to filming, photography, and sound recording – which may include you as a member of the audience – and its use in publication or advertising distribution, either printed or online, without payment or copyright.

This event is taking place as a hybrid event on NTU campus. This will allow a flexible way of attending. You are currently booking to attend virtually and only the talk component. A link to the material on YouTube will be emailed to everyone who is attending virtually in their confirmation email. We will be happy to answer questions posted as response to the video over the following days. So do keep booking onto this event. If you haven't booked you might need to wait a while before you can see it.

You can also attend the event in person and enter our planetarium but would need to book the Open Dome IN PERSON event to purchase your ticket.
