Event details
In this lecture, you will learn why you cannot afford to ignore blockchains, cryptocurrencies, and their applications. Since Bitcoin's inception in 2009, a new era of value exchange has begun: a decentralized, censorship-resistant, immutable, fast, cheap, and traceable peer-to-peer network that operates without intermediaries. Since then, tens of thousands of different cryptocurrencies have been created. Today, we see an ecosystem valued at $2.5 trillion, with a daily trading volume of $100 billion and millions of active users. Cryptocurrencies and tokens have real-world applications in cloud computing, cloud storage, AI, supply chains, gaming, the metaverse, oracles, real estate, ticketing, the Internet of Things, and of course finance. Alex will guide you through the basics of cryptocurrencies and blockchains, explaining decentralized finance (DeFi), comparing it to traditional finance, and exploring the future of DeFi. Along the way, Alex will also highlight some of his related research papers.
