Event details

The Human Tissue Act 2004 governs the treatment of human remains less than 100 years old, and there are international agreements in place in respect of the ancient remains of indigenous peoples.   However, this leaves the question of what should happen to human remains in other situations.  For example: Is positive or problematic to display bog bodies and skeletons in museums?  What rights and interests are at stake?   Does it make a difference if the individuals are identified, and their descendants known?   The lecture explores these and other questions surrounding the legal framework in this area.
