It explores the historical roots of welfare dilemmas that are currently constructed in presentist terms and asks what lessons history might hold for the future (if there is one) of the British welfare system.

5.30 pm - 7.30 pmIn this lecture, Jim will reflect on how his experience of working in the banking sector in the late 1980s and early 1990s sparked a lifelong interest in consumers, firms and policy in the financial services sector. Jim will explain his motivations for moving from banking into academia and how that happened. Jim will relate his research interests to his prior experiences and provide an insight into some of his main research themes.
