Lubna Shuja is the first Asian, first Muslim and seventh female President in the Law Society's 200-year history.

During her visit, Lubna participated in a series of engaging events. The highlight of her visit was a thought-provoking lecture delivered to SQE and LPC law students, as well as staff members. Her speech gave an overview of her journey to President, starting out as a Solicitor in 1992. She also gave the students advice for securing a training contract and urged the students to embrace their own diversity in their legal careers. After the lecture, Lubna engaged in a Q&A session with the students, where she answered their queries on various aspects of legal practice, legal education, and the role of the Law Society in shaping the legal profession.

Lubna also took the opportunity to meet staff and students from NLS Legal and Support Through Court  and tour the facilities. She learnt about the work both organisations do and how they support students in providing work experience on real cases.

Jenny Chapman, Executive Dean of Nottingham Law School said “We were delighted to welcome Lubna Shuja, President of the National Law Society of England and Wales, to NLS, as we celebrate our 60th year in legal education. Lubna gave an excellent lecture to some of our postgraduate students which was a fantastic way to start the new academic year. Lubna is an inspirational role model for the next generation of lawyers, and it was a privilege to host a visit from such an exceptional person.”

The day concluded with a meeting between Lubna and Nottingham Trent University Vice Chancellor Professor Edward Peck.

This visit was a great example of one of the many varying experiences available to students at Nottingham Law School.
