About us

Lady on laptop

NTU has a wealth of experience in apprenticeship delivery. We were one of a small group of universities offering trailblazer degree apprenticeships following their introduction in 2016. Since then, the central apprenticeships team has supported the growth of the University’s apprenticeship portfolio from two programmes in 2016/17 to twenty-four in 2022/23.

Our specialists have extensive professional experience in the private and public sectors. We regularly contribute to developing apprenticeship standards at a national level and speak at national and international conferences on the subject.

Our experienced team continuously strive to ensure NTU’s apprenticeship provision is of outstanding quality, offers excellent training opportunities, remains sector-leading and meets the skills needs of our partner employers.

We provide advice, support and guidance to colleagues across NTU who are either adding apprenticeships to their portfolio or are established, deliverers.

NTU Schools Employer Engagement

We support schools to help them meet their apprenticeship planning targets - we do this by engaging with local, regional and national employers to convince them of the benefits of apprenticeships and developing a commitment from them to create an apprenticeship role within their organisation. We can also work with schools to scope the potential for developing new apprenticeship programmes to increase the breadth of NTU’s apprenticeship offering.

Our service includes:

  • Ongoing employer engagement with partners including regular reporting
  • Detailed analysis of the regional skills needs and opportunities for new apprenticeship programmes
  • Apprenticeship on-boarding service

Apprenticeships at NTU

Combine working with studying part-time at a leading university – giving apprentices and employers the best of both worlds. We have been successfully delivering higher and degree apprenticeships since 2015, providing training solutions to a wide range of businesses.

Professional Development through Apprenticeships

As a qualifying employer NTU pay into the Apprenticeship Levy which enables us to offer professional development opportunities to our own colleagues through the apprenticeships programme of training and learning that we offer.

Since 2018 over 300 colleagues from across NTU have taken the opportunity to update their knowledge and skills by undertaking an apprenticeship, these include Laboratory Technicians, Senior Chef, Academic Professionals and Data Scientists.

I undertook the Senior Leaders MBA Apprenticeship with the Business School, my project mentor had been mapped to my specific project and interests, which really helped to frame what I needed to achieve. Their insight and knowledge on my specific area helped me to achieve well within this element and prepare me well for End Point Assessment. The course was clearly laid out and broken down into distinct, bitesize modules with clear outcomes and objectives. The MBA is designed to ensure students engage with real world examples, and work alongside local and international businesses addressing strategic problems and offering real world value. Having completed the MBA I feel that I have a well-rounded, theoretically underpinned understanding of ethical and sustainable leadership to help me push my career further.
