Literacy Achievement Coaches

Literacy Achievement Coaches support secondary school pupils with their attainment and engagement with learning.

About the role

School pupils continue to experience challenges and learning loss as a result of the pandemic. By Autumn 2021, pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds were 3.5 months behind expected levels in reading. By acting as a supportive role model, students will work with pupils in year 7 to support literacy and develop their reading and writing skills.

The programme is a 10-week placement based in school between January and April where students work up to 7 hours per week. It's preferable that students undertake the hours over one day or two half days per week. This is a paid opportunity and applications are welcomed from both Nottingham Trent University and University of Nottingham students.

Why should I apply?

There are many great benefits to participating in a Students in Classrooms scheme. These include:

  • paid opportunity
  • developing your employability skills
  • making an impact in the local community
  • supporting positive learning experiences for young people in Nottingham
  • providing information, advice and guidance to young people considering their future education and career plans.
