Global impact

Every day we work on real-life issues, including climate change, cancer research, crime prevention and mental health. We are also supporting local and national economies through business partnerships, student talent and active social mobility.

But we couldn't achieve this without the generous support of corporations and our Alumni - without you. There are a number of ways to give to NTU, whether it be through time, gifts in-kind or money.

However you choose to give to NTU, your support towards our research, student talent and facilities is a gift not just to our University but also to the world outside it.

Alumni: ways to give

Volunteer as part of our Alumni and Industry Fellowship Programme and make a difference.

We are incredibly grateful to our worldwide network of talented alumni and industry volunteers who continue to give their time to support, encourage and inspire our prospective and current students, and recent graduates.

From speaking at events and mentoring students, to providing guided interview practice and publishing blogs, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved – wherever you are in the world! Your knowledge, skills, connections, and experience could make the key difference to our students’ professional prospects.

You will need two years of industry or further study experience upon completing your undergraduate degree. There is no minimum time requirement for volunteering with us – our programme is flexible, and it is designed to work around your own interests and availability.

More than 900 Alumni and Industry Fellows have taken part in the programme to date, benefitting thousands of students, contributing thousands of hours and an untold amount of knowledge and experience between them. This is a great time to join our growing community of volunteers.

You can find out more here, or by contacting us at alumni.fellows@ntu.ac.uk.

We are renowned for our vocationally-led courses and emphasis on practical experiences for students including work placements. It is what gives us one of the best graduate records in the UK.

Offering work placements to our students enables us to continue this legacy as well as bring new skills and knowledge into your organisation.

Regular giving from Alumni and friends helps us to continue our pioneering research and build a university that benefits our students, businesses and communities.

Companies: ways to give

Donating software and technology to NTU can be mutually beneficial. For example, we can use software and technology in research to help develop new products and services, and it also helps raise the profile of your company amongst our students.

An example of this is PepsiCo, who donated a £20,000 robotic arm to NTU in 2015. The robotic arm is used as part of ongoing research into product design and manufacturing.

"Our partnership with NTU will hopefully investigate a number of options for more productive manufacturing solutions.”
- Steven Brooks, European Director of Productivity at PepsiCo

The generosity of companies has enabled us to achieve some remarkable things at NTU, both for our students and the wider community.

BASF donated buildings and equipment to NTU in 2001. These buildings were used to create BioCity, a hub for emerging bioscience companies in the East Midlands to start up and grow.

The family who founded Excel Computer Systems Plc donated money to NTU in memory of their daughter, Dr Pauline Polkey, a former NTU lecturer.

Their generous donation created:

  • the Dr Pauline Polkey Archive Centre
  • Dr Pauline Polkey Archives and Special Collections
  • the Dr Pauline Polkey Scholarships

There are a number of ways to sponsor student activities and provide opportunities that will support their growth and career prospects. Here are some of them:

Santander partnership

Santander has invested more than £680k in opportunities for NTU students.

NTU joined Santander Universities UK Partnership in 2012 and has benefited from a number of its projects, including:

  • subsidised student and graduate internships for SMEs which has supported over 307 NTU students
  • santander travel scholarships
  • santander enterprise sponsorship
  • santader entrepreneurship awards

Santander Universities has announced further funding for 2017/18 for partner UK universities including Nottingham Trent, totalling over £10.1m. This money will be used towards nurturing enterprise and entrepreneurship, supporting challenges of particular student groups through the Student Impact Fund and to allow the continued success of the SME internship scheme.

Matt Hutnell, Director of Santander Universities UK, said: “We are delighted that the partnership between Santander Universities and NTU has gone from strength to strength during the past five years and we are looking forward to working together for many more years to come.”

Sponsoring awards

Student scholarships

By giving your time, you can help our students and graduate to improve their job prospects by sharing your knowledge. It also gives you a great opportunity to raise your company profile and meet our students face-to-face.

There are many ways to do this, including:

  • mentoring
  • mock interviews
  • career talks
  • company visits
