Below is the written question and answer session with Fardin Sadeghi Barzegar. Fardin was part of a cohort on the AutoCAD 2D for the Construction Professional short course.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m currently full time MBA student studying Business Administration at NTU, due to graduate in September 2023. Around my studies, I work part time for the UK building energy surveyor company, Crawford and Co.

What first attracted you to the AutoCAD 2D for the Construction Professional course?

Generally, I do know how to work with AutoCAD, though I was looking to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge and ultimately gain a certificate to prove my capability with the software - which is what the AutoCAD 2D for the Construction Professional course at NTU provided for me.

Knowing more about AutoCAD has allowed me to effectively work at different levels across the company and communicate more clearly with senior management about plans and designs that I have in mind.

What did you learn about the course that was particularly useful?

The tutor taught us how to respond to duties around AutoCAD. The tutor effectively explained the many functions of AutoCAD to me and how we can do test drawings quickly to help save time between projects.

This is a really valuable asset to me in my work, as it allows me to work efficiently and across multiple projects simultaneously.

How much time did you need to invest in the course to complete it?

The course was ten sessions long which were three hours each, so I invested a total of thirty hours in total.

What benefits would you say it had for your professional development?

The company I work for greatly emphasises energy efficiency in floor plans and building development. By learning more about AutoCAD, it allowed me to create more energy efficient layouts supporting both the company and the clients.

For myself, I learnt new skills in AutoCAD so I could demonstrate building design plans, which in turn helped me make more meaningful connections between senior management and clients.

Would you recommend doing this course to other people? And if so, why?

I would recommend this course! It’s a way of demonstrating to your employer your commitment to develop, thereby helping your professional progress.
