Agriculture, Land Management and Production Level 3 (T Level)

Start year

Information for 2025

About this course

T-levels are new courses that follow on from GCSEs.  They have been developed in collaboration with employers and are tailored to prepare students for work and higher education by aligning content with current and emerging industry needs.

T Levels are an alternative to A levels, apprenticeships and other 16 to 19 courses. They are equivalent to three A levels and focus on vocational skills aimed at helping you into employment, higher study or an apprenticeship.

The T Level in Agriculture offers a unique chance to gain real-world experience through industry placements, providing essential skills and knowledge for careers in the agriculture sector, or pursuing higher education.

This is a two-year programme that combines classroom theory and practical lessons alongside work placements.

You will spend 80% of the course learning and gaining the skills that employers need. The other 20% is a meaningful industry placement, where you can put those skills into action.

  • Brackenhurst is set in stunning countryside just a bus ride away from Nottingham city centre, next to the town of Southwell.
  • At Brackenhurst, you’ll have access to incredible facilities. These include an Animal Unit, Equestrian Centre, laboratories, library and gardens and fields that are overflowing with plants and wildlife.
  • Studying with us means that you’ll be a part of an amazing learning environment. You get all the perks of being part of a big university, but you will still enjoy the comforts of a friendly college.

What you’ll study

Over two years, you will complete agriculture topics, including practical learning on our award winning Farm and Estate. Topics will include; livestock husbandry, health and disease, managing crops and grassland for nutrition and welfare, business management and safe machinery use. You will also undertake classroom-based learning, developing an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to employability, such as sustainability, ethical principles, communication, business and health and safety.

Our specialist cattle roundhouse houses a herd of award-winning Lincoln Red Cattle and it can be used for animal observations and to develop your handling skills of larger breeds. We also have a machinery pool with advanced tractors, fitted with self-steering equipment to develop your machinery knowledge and general use of modern systems. Our equipment has the latest technology for crop establishment and nutrition.

You will also complete a minimum of 45 day industry placement to further develop your practical skills and livestock knowledge. With this blend of technical study program and industry experience, the T Level in Agriculture is the first step for students toward rewarding careers in the sector.

We regularly review and update our course content based on student and employer feedback, ensuring that all of our courses remain current and relevant. This may result in changes to module content or module availability in future years.

You will spend time learning in our industry leading facilities through a mixture of lectures, group discussions, practical demonstrations and hands-on experience with livestock, crops and machinery.

An important element of the course are visits to leading vegetable growers, organic dairy farmers and industry shows. This allows you to broaden your horizons.

The course includes a work placement allowing you to develop your skills and knowledge in agriculture by working on a farm, enhancing your chances of employment after you complete your studies. You can work with local farmers, agronomists, nutritionists or in connected industries such as the National Farmers Union.

How you’ll be assessed

You’ll be assessed through written assignments, external practical assessments and exams.

The employer-set project ensures students have the opportunity to combine core knowledge and skills to develop a substantial piece of work in response to an employer set brief related to current industries themes. The employer-set project is a separate part of the T Level programme to the Industry Placement.
