PEAP class
  • Level(s) of study: Short course
  • Study mode(s): Distance learning
  • Location: City Campus
  • Starting: Various
  • Course duration: 6 - 20 weeks

We will continue to deliver our Spring 2021 PEAP courses online. Teaching will be carried out using an online video communications platform. Our Language Centre staff are experienced in online delivery and are confident that the course is delivered to a high standard. Staff are also able to provide group and one-to-one support throughout your studies.

Improve your English; meet your entry requirements; build your skills and confidence.

Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (PEAP)

Our PEAP courses are for international students who need to improve their language skills before starting an NTU course.

Our courses range from 6 to 20 weeks depending on ability, the language level you need to achieve, and availability of our courses.

It's really important to read the entry requirements so you know which course is right for you and understand how many weeks you'll be asked to study in order to reach the appropriate level of English.

If you've applied for an undergraduate or postgraduate course, you'll be required to reach a specific grade at the end of your PEAP course before you can progress to the degree course.

You can also apply for a PEAP course if you are not going to continue your studies on an undergraduate or postgraduate course.

Circular, interactive learning

Your PEAP course will be very interactive.

First, you'll start by preparing for the session. You may be asked to complete a pre-lesson task, or do some research, for example.

Next, whether you are studying with us online or on campus in the future, you'll be working together with others in the session. You'll get feedback from your classmates and teachers.

After the session, you'll be asked to review what you did and prepare for the next session.

'Learning by doing' is an introduction to the NTU way of doing things and a great preparation for starting academic life at the University.

The best thing is the teachers; they're very friendly and professional and always help when you need support.

Ngoc, Vietnam

Our dedicated language support continues when you've completed PEAP and started your degree course. We offer English language suppport classes free of charge, including one-to-one help with academic writing.

How to pay PEAP course fees

For 10 or 6-week PEAP courses you must pay your PEAP course fees in full by:

For 20 or 15-week PEAP courses you can either:

  • pay your fees in full (as above) or;
  • pay an advanced payment of £3,000 through Global Pay (Western Union) by selecting option 1 ‘Advanced payment’, or pay your advanced payment on our Online Store.

If you choose to pay advanced payment only, you'll also need to arrange an instalment plan to pay the rest of your fees in order to be fully enrolled. Our finance team will help you arrange instalment plans, if you need any support.

If you need to cancel

Hopefully you won't need to cancel for any reason. Just in case you do though, it's good to know that you can cancel your PEAP course at any time up to the start date of the course. You can do this by:

If you start the PEAP course and decide to leave, you can get a refund. This will be a proportion of the course cost depending on how long you've studied. For example, if you decide to leave after studying 60% of your PEAP course, you can get a refund of 40% of your PEAP course fee.

What you'll study

The Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (PEAP) course will improve your all-round English language ability. You will also develop your study skills and learn about British university culture.
