Introduction:

Have you always wanted to write a novel?

Whether you’ve got a great idea but aren’t sure how to begin or have an unfinished manuscript gathering dust under your bed, this practical and playful course will offer exercises and advice to get your novel underway.


The course will suit both the beginner and those with more experience who are interested in honing a novel or who are seeking fresh inspiration.

By the end of the course you’ll have the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to have a novel underway.

Tutor profile: Megan Taylor is the author of four novels, How We Were LostThe Dawning, The Lives of Ghosts and We Wait, and a short story collection, The Woman Under the Ground.

She's currently working towards a second collection, as well as finishing a fifth novel.

Megan also has an MA in Novel Writing with Distinction from Manchester Metropolitan University, and has enjoyed running creative writing workshops for many years.

What you’ll study

On this course you will:

  • explore the essential aspects of novel writing (including character development, setting, point of view, structure and plot)
  • put these elements into practice through a series of creative writing exercises
  • better understand your unique writing ‘voice’ and the story you want to tell
  • consider your individual ideas and needs as a writer

How you’re taught

This course will be delivered in person on Nottingham Trent University city campus.

Tutor profile: 

Megan Taylor is the author of four dark novels, How We Were Lost, The Dawning, The Lives of Ghosts and We Wait, and a short story collection, The Woman Under the Ground.

Her first short stories collection, ‘The Woman Under the Ground and Other Stories’, was published, and since then, further short stories have appeared in a variety of journals and anthologies and been placed in several competitions.

She is currently putting together a second collection of unsettling short stories, as well as finishing her latest novel, a psychological thriller.

Megan also has an MA, with Distinction, in Creative Writing from Manchester Metropolitan University.

She has been running creative writing courses and workshops for over a decade.
