Introduction:

If you are interested in building upon your existing knowledge, pushing boundaries, developing new ideas and ways of working, then an MSc will help you make a mark in this exciting and incredibly employable field.

What you’ll study

On this masters degree you will be challenged to innovate across a range of disciplines within music production such as creative recording, mixing and commercial composition, developing and contributing to contemporary practices, and working towards shaping the future of a fast changing, competitive and highly creative discipline. You will develop a personalised journey in specific areas of interest culminating in you leaving with a focused commercial strategy for a sustainable career.

The key aim is to cultivate high quality, entrepreneurially adept graduates to work in the Music Production industries from a portfolio career grass roots level to more structured established company environments. Students will be well placed for the real world of work in this exciting field.

You will be required to undertake postgraduate level research and investigation in all aspects of your masters study and you will be exposed to a multitude of level 7 research skills and frameworks.

You'll evaluate the most appropriate methods and apply them to a given research project. This module runs across multiple creative masters degrees, enabling cross-course collaboration and reflection.

Throughout the module you will be scaffolded to arrive at a fully formed proposal for your masters dissertation module.

Based on your experience in the Research for Creative Industries module and the resulting proposal you will now embark on your masters dissertation journey which will be an independent study into your specific chosen area of interest.

You will have paths available to you to help you personalise your level 7 experience, for example a more traditional desktop study or a more practical project based approach to prepare you for a future in industry or doctoral study.

This module has been designed to help you explore, and reflect on, the operational practices of the event production industry. You will engage in a critical evaluation of the prevailing methods of operation that are most relevant to your own journey as an event production professional, regardless of whether you are an employee, a business owner, or a freelancer.

Throughout your studies, you will explore your position within the industry and work towards establishing a career by creating and refining outward-facing portfolio assets and employability skills appropriate to your own personal journey.

You will undertake a critical analysis of the employment landscape to help you identify pertinent professional prospects that can support your growth and provide you with the best opportunities for success. By utilising self-sourced or industry-supplied projects, you will hone your technical and professional abilities, gaining insight into the requirements of the event production sector and preparing for a sustainable career.

During the 'Practice' module, you will explore and experiment with various related skills and incorporate the relevant outcomes into your work-facing portfolio. Additionally, you will be paired with a mentor from the industry who will offer support and valuable insider perspectives.

Ultimately, you will develop an output plan and pitch for a 'Confetti Employability Grant' to assist you in taking the next steps in your career.

Welcome to your Event Production playground module! This is where you will have the opportunity to explore established and emerging theories, practices, technologies, and skills in the event production industry.

This industry relies on teamwork to bring projects to life, whether it be sound system designs, communication networks, lighting plots, video content or broadcast capability: all are essential elements that need to be considered and implemented for a successful event.

You will have the chance to work as part of a team on projects such as the repurposing of unused buildings as performance spaces or multi-space broadcast, or the design, planning, and application of technical infrastructure in live event scenarios. By doing so, you will develop valuable interpersonal skills that will enable you to lead and be led on real-world projects, honing these skills throughout your academic journey.

In addition to that, you will also have the opportunity to explore how to apply your existing skills in related fields through a series of workshops and projects, such as mapping your live sound mixing ability to event broadcast or applying your lighting design skills to video mapping.

By experimenting with related competencies, you will enhance your employability across the event production sector and personalise these transferable skills to enhance what makes you unique. The key element to this module is engaging with process, and reflecting on your role in that process, actively honing your skills and knowledge related to your intended employability journey which can then be used in your 'Creative Entrepreneurial Approaches' module, to showcase you, at your very best.
