Introduction:
Course dates:
16 April - 4 June 2027, Fridays 2 - 4.30 pm, eight weeks
This course follows on from the Creative Writing for Beginners daytime course, giving you a chance to take your writing drafts and ideas and develop them further with the support of your tutor and a committed group of fellow writers.
This course contains a balance of tutor input and feedback sessions.
Your tutor will shape the course to include four weeks of sessions focusing on the genre and aspects of writing the group want to develop. These sessions will draw on writing about craft and provide literary examples to help you refine your work towards pitch or publication. In addition, your tutor will lead exercises to help you explore and generate new writing pieces.
Every other week, you will share a draft piece of writing with the group for discussion and feedback. This detailed and supportive tutor and peer feedback helps you refine your work and test the effect of your writing on an audience. You will rethink, redraft and refine, gaining the confidence to make your own writing choices – knowing why you’ve made them.
-
You’ll be part of a creative writing community; one that promotes discussion, collaboration, and encourages experimentation and the constant swapping of ideas.
-
Benefit from learning with an active, expert writer-tutor who has established links to the profession and significant experience working in a wide range of genres.
-
Get published with our student anthology; every term we ask for submissions and print a short anthology of your original creative writing, which you can keep after the course.
-

You will have developed a knowledge of the craft of creative writing and have evidence of your skills as a writer based on feedback and self-editing. You will have further developed the language to talk about literature and writing, building your confidence and skills.
