This course is ideal for industry designers, educators, and anyone with an interest in exploring the potential of VR, offering valuable applications across a wide range of fields including architecture, interior design, product design, footwear and automotive design, fashion, and UX design.
Explore the limitless possibilities of Gravity Sketch, the revolutionary VR-based 3D modelling software used by top brands like Ford, Adidas, and VW to push the boundaries of innovation, and gain the skills to create, visualise, and present your design concepts with clarity and impact. Imagine impressing clients and colleagues with immersive, detailed 3D models that bring your ideas to life like never before.
You’ll be guided through a series of hands-on learning and expert instruction, starting with foundational VR setup and progressing to advanced Gravity Sketch tools. Along the way, you’ll develop your own personal project—taking it from an initial concept to a polished presentation, culminating in a mock concept review where your designs will shine.

What you’ll study
On this course you’ll learn how to leverage VR to create detailed, immersive 3D models with the Gravity Sketch software in preparation to implement it into your workflow. Over the two days you’ll be learning several new tools and to put this into practice, you gradually develop a personal project from initial ideation to finished concept which upon completion will be combined alongside the class to create a mock concept review.
During this course, you will:
- understand the use of VR in design
- set up and navigate VR equipment with confidence
- practice using the Gravity Sketch interface and core tools
- get to grips with intuitive ideation techniques, surface modelling, and environment setup
- learn how to integrate Gravity Sketch with CAD and other 3D design software for enhanced efficiency
- use Gravity Sketch's presentation tools and enhance your visuals with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to deliver compelling client demonstrations.
This course isn’t just about learning software; it’s about transforming the way you design. By the end, you’ll be equipped to use VR independently, enabling you to unlock bold new levels of creativity and collaboration in your projects.
By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to confidently use VR as a design tool and integrate VR into your existing workflow. You’ll be able to create 3D models that can enhance client presentations, offering a unique, immersive experience.

How you’re taught
This course combines demonstrations, hands-on activities, and project-based learning.
You’ll benefit from guided exercises, group feedback, and independent work time to practise your skills. The course structure balances theory and practical applications, allowing you to build confidence within VR and Gravity Sketch.
This course will be delivered in person on Nottingham Trent University city campus.

Campus and facilities
You will be based in the School of Architecture, Design and Built Environment on the City Campus.
You’ll work in our spacious IT suites equipped with industry standard software including AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Adobe Creative Cloud.
You will receive an email one week before the course starts with joining instructions on where to go for the first day.
You’ll also have access to our library to use outside of your short course; whilst you can’t reserve or take away books, you are welcome to use them as a resource for research and referencing.
Entry requirements
Level: Beginner
Entry requirement: No software experience is required, although you must have basic computer skills and be familiar with Windows operating systems and file management.
You must be over the age of 18 in order to attend this course.
Fees and funding
The fee for this course is £355.
Payment is due at the time of booking - ask us if you'd prefer an invoice sent to your company.
Secure your place with a deposit - If you're booking more than two months before the course starts, we can accept a £200 deposit to secure your place, and the balance is due one month before the course starts.
Your course fees cover the cost of studies, including great benefits such as the use of our modern library and free use of the IT equipment and software on the campus during your course.
You will need to bring with you:
- notebook and pen
- You’re welcome to bring your own laptop and/or VR headset, however all hardware and software will be provided.

Need accommodation for a week long summer course?
Accommodation can be booked separately to the course; the rooms are only a few minutes’ walk from our studios and classrooms, and cost £259 per week.
These are single rooms with a private bathroom in shared apartments in Nottingham Trent University’s city campus accommodation, which is ideal if you're looking to be based in Nottingham's lively city centre and want an economical place to stay.
