Research Summary
Kente weaving has existed for over 3 centuries and is the main source of livelihood for indigens of kente weaving communities in Ghana. Kente is a highly cherished cloth and has overtime become a symbol of cultural heritage and pride among a lot of black people across the world. However most weavers struggle to get access to markets to sell their products which is greatly affecting their source of livelihood. Most of these weavers due to illiteracy do not have access to latest digital technologies or platforms to sell their products and mostly rely on tourists to buy their products which is not sustainable. The project therefore seeks to investigate how the use of product innovation and digital technology could create a more sustainable income for these weavers.
