Role

Emma teaches across the full undergraduate suite of marketing modules within the BA Marketing and BA Business Management and Marketing programmes. She supports students throughout their time at NBS, including those undertaking a placement year.

She serves as the Assistant Course Leader for Level 4 students in BA Marketing, helping them transition into university life and guiding them in setting and achieving their goals during their time at NBS and beyond.

With over 25 years of experience in marketing and visitor economy development, Emma brings a broad and practical background that enables her to advise and inspire students effectively.

Emma also contributes to departmental Quality Assurance, supporting module leaders in the delivery and enhancement of their modules.

Career overview

Emma has built a broad career in marketing and development across diverse industries, with place management and development at its core. During over a decade at VisitScotland, she played a key role in shaping and delivering place marketing initiatives across the country. As part of the EventScotland directorate, she contributed to the development and promotion of the national Scotland the Perfect Stage strategy, enhancing Scotland’s reputation as a world-leading destination for major events.

In this role, Emma was involved in bidding for and securing high-profile sporting events, as well as supporting event organisers to grow their impact. She helped develop their capacity to deliver social, economic, and cultural benefits for Scotland.

Emma also led the marketing and promotion of the town of Rugby as the ‘birthplace of the game’, driving industry engagement, increasing visitor footfall, and strengthening the town’s identity.

Her experience also includes professional services marketing for a law firm, and three years in a public relations consultancy in Malaysia, where she provided marketing research and communications support to a range of national and international corporate clients.
