Challenge yourself in competitions

Competitions are designed to challenge your knowledge. By taking part you will improve your skills and become better prepared for your future career.

Each competition will require different roles, but for all competitions, students compete in pairs, so you are never on your own. You will also receive an element of training, from the NLS Mooters' Guild or the organiser, before you have a go yourself!

The competitions which occur annually at NLS are:

Client Interviewing

Winners may have the opportunity to go on to represent the university in national or international competitions against other universities in the spring term.

Negotiation and Mediation

Winners may have the opportunity to go on to represent the university in national or international competitions against other universities in the spring or summer term.

Mooting

Internal and external competitions run throughout both terms. Some external competitions may offer mini pupillages to the winners.

Any questions?

The Mooter’s Guild is a student ran organisation designed to give student’s opportunities to moot.

For those with little or no experience mooting, the Mooter's Guild run skills workshops to teach students about advocacy whilst building their confidence. Throughout these sessions, students develop a host of skills including public speaking, critical analysis, and attention to detail.

Competitions can be hosted online or in-person. Competitions hosted by NLS are usually in-person to give you the best experience.

If you need to travel to represent the university at an external competition, your travel costs will be covered. Competitions hosted by NLS are free.

Competitions are open to all students, but it is best to get involved after your first year when you have developed a better understanding of the law.

Once your course starts, you will be able to access NOW, NTU's Online Workspace, where you will be able to find out more information.
