College Courses Interview Guide

Congratulations on getting an interview at Brackenhurst!

We look forward to meeting you to talk about your chosen course. This page will guide you through our interview process, so you know exactly what to expect on the day. Don't worry - we'll also tell you if there's anything you need to prepare beforehand.

What to expect at the interview

You will be invited to an online Microsoft Teams interview - a link will be sent to you before the day. On the day of your interview, you will click the link to join the interview at your scheduled time.

You will then be joined by our friendly Brackenhurst team who will tell you a little bit about life at Brackenhurst, and will give you the opportunity to tell us a little bit about you.

Teams, camera, action!

Taster days

Following your online interview, you will be invited to a taster day on campus, where you may be required to attend a practical session.

For students interested in studying an animal-related course, you’ll need to bring additional clothing and footwear to be able to work with animals in all weather conditions on the day. For your own health and safety and for the welfare of the animals, please remember to remove all jewellery, piercings (or cover with a plaster) and to make sure that your nails are cut short.

What to bring to your taster day

Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture | Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture

Please bring overalls and wellington boots with you for a practical session on the farm yard. Don’t worry if you don’t have overalls at the moment – we have some you can borrow.

Level 2 Diploma in Animal Care | Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management

Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear – no sandals, high heels or flip-flops. It can get very muddy walking down to the animal unit! You’ll be given a lab coat to wear during your practical session, which will take place indoors at the Animal Unit.

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Equine Management

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Land and Wildlife Management

Please wear appropriate waterproof clothing and footwear as some of the interview could be held outdoors

Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science

The Applied Science taster day does not include a practical session however you will be provided with a lab coat during your time in the labs on the day

Access to HE Land-based Studies (Animal Science) | Access to HE Science

The Access to HE taster day does not include a practical session however you will be provided with a lab coat during your time in the labs on the day

How you will be selected

The criteria we’ll use to assess your performance on the interview day includes:

  • your ability to communicate effectively and clearly
  • a demonstration of your passion for the course
  • your ability to listen and follow instructions as part of your practical session
