Crime Scene Training Facility

Our Crime Scene Training Facility is the perfect place to develop practical Forensic Science skills.

Empowering practical expertise in Forensic Science

To support a comprehensive approach to forensic analysis, NTU has created a crime scene facility that recreates crime scenarios, including burglaries, assaults, and intricate drug searches.

Our experienced academic team trains students to assume the role of crime scene examiners through investigation, evidence collection and analysis - the optimal learning setting for students to delve into the intricacies of evidence processing.

You will have access to seven purpose-built rooms and a spacious external area, including:

  • A briefing suite
  • CCTV room
  • Specialised laboratory for blood pattern analysis.

Our goal is to empower students to become skilled forensic professionals fully prepared to tackle real-world challenges with confidence and expertise. Find out more about Forensic Science at NTU.

Additionally, you will be trained in the application of specialist lighting techniques to enhance the visibility and detection of latent fingerprints. These skills enable students to effectively process and analyse fingerprint evidence, a cornerstone of forensic identification.

Have access to cutting-edge equipment and techniques used in the analysis of DNA evidence. With an access to biosciences labs, you will learn how to extract DNA from different sources, perform polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and conduct DNA sequencing using advanced instruments. Through hands-on experiments on the course, you will gain proficiency in analysing DNA profiles, interpreting results, and understanding the significance of DNA evidence in criminal investigations.

Virtual experience and training professionals

In order to enhance our educational offerings and provide students with a comprehensive learning experience, we are actively working on creating a range of online, virtual crime scene training packages. These resources are designed to complement our existing facilities and provide students with an immersive and innovative learning environment where they can develop their skills and knowledge in the field of forensic science.

We take great pride in our commitment to practical expertise, and this dedication has earned us recognition from prestigious organizations such as Nottinghamshire Police and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC). These esteemed entities have chosen to utilize our state-of-the-art facilities to develop their own forensic training programs, which serves as a testament to the quality and effectiveness of our resources.
