Supplementary NTU students

Supplementary students study a language in addition to their degree.

If you're an absolute beginner, have some prior foreign language skills or are at an advanced level, we'll help and support you to build your ability so that you can communicate confidently in your chosen language.

Language skills can support your professional development or build your abilities for international work or travel. You'll be taught by experienced language specialists, many of whom are native speakers, so that you can benefit from an authentic experience.

Can you tell me if I am a Supplementary or Accredited student?

No, please check with your degree course administrator or course leader.

How do I register?

Supplementary students may register and pay for a ULP module via the ULP Online Store from 26 September 2023.

What if I register and then change my mind?

If you withdraw within three weeks of the course start date you’ll receive a refund minus £60.00. If you withdraw after this you won’t receive a refund.

Please note that the course start date is the date of the first class of the course, not the date you registered.  This means that if the first class was on 2 October the last date when you could withdraw and have a refund would be 22 October.

These dates would be the same if you registered and attended your first class on 15 October.  Your deadline for withdrawal with a refund would still be 22 October.

What is the fee?

In October 2023 the fee for the full year was £200. If you are at NTU for the first semester only your fee will be £140.

How do I pay?

All payments must be made by via the online store when you register. We’re unable to accept cash/cheque/telephone payments.

Can I pay in instalments?

No, the full fee is payable when you register.

Can I try a class and pay if I want to continue?

No.  You must pay the full fee before you attend the class. However we offer taster classes during NTU welcome week.  Please visit the NTU Welcome Week website in late Summer for more details.

Is it true I get my money back if I pass?

Yes! If you pass the course your full fee will be refunded to you. However, if you don’t pass you won’t receive a refund.

How do I know which stage to join?

The entry levels for each stage are available on our web pages.

Do I have to take assessments?

Assessments form part of the course.  If you don’t wish to take them you can still take the course, but it will mean that there won’t be any record of your results, you won’t receive any certification and you won’t be permitted to move to the next stage.  We recommend that you complete the assessments as a way of measuring your progress.
