Why did you choose to study your course at NTU?

I chose to study at NTU due to the amazing facilities for equine courses on Brackenhurst campus. Brackenhurst campus as a whole is a lovely place to study. It has a community feel and being out in nature helps ground you in times of stress.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I love how passionate all my lecturers are on their chosen subject and enjoy going to class to learn from such inspiring and influential people.

Tell us more about your placement(s) and the projects you were involved with. What did you do and what did you achieve?

I travelled by myself to Sydney, Australia to work with a equine vet. During this time, I gained a lot of knowledge on lameness cases and the diagnostics involved in diagnosing musculoskeletal injuries. I leaned how to take and interpret x-ray and ultrasound images, how to identify lameness along with many other skills including building confidence in forming relationships with veterinary professionals. This will help massively with my career aspirations of becoming a Veterinary Physiotherapist as I now have experience in the industry and have the confidence and knowledge to put myself out there and grab every opportunity that comes my way.

How did your placement(s) help with your personal development and your study?

I have grown massively in independence and confidence both personally and professionally. Placement year has also helped me come back into my studies with fresh eyes and new perspectives/experiences to draw on.

Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?

My course covers a wide range of topics relating to equine health and sport. My lecturers are all very passionate about the subject and this is reflected in their quality of teaching. Anyone who has an interest in horse sport and welfare should consider this course.

What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has / will help you to achieve that goal?

My plan is to complete a master’s in veterinary physiotherapy. My course has given me the academic skills and knowledge for me to feel confident in achieving this goal and go on to have an enjoyable and successful career in the equine veterinary field.
