Why did you choose to study your course at NTU?

I chose to study the Animal Biology BSc course at NTU because the course content really stood out to me. Modules such as: Animal Anatomy and Physiology (in first year), Animal Behaviour and Welfare (in first year), Animal Health and Disease (in second year), Animal Reproduction and Breeding (in second year), and Applied Animal Nutrition (in final year) sounded very interesting and covered topics I have a great passion for. My college lecturers had discussed that NTU was one of the best universities for undergraduate animal courses. I went to an open day on Brackenhurst Campus, and I fell in love straight away! Brack is so full of nature, with stunning views and beautiful walks. I was impressed with the amazing facilities for the practical aspects of the course, with access to the animal unit, vet nursing unit, equine yard and laboratories.

What have you enjoyed the most about your course?

What I’ve enjoyed most about my course is the content, course structure, feedback sessions, lecturer support, 1 to 1 tutorials and NTU support services - especially the library team! The modules were very interesting, and I learned so much and gained new interests I never would have thought to look into. There were modules that I did not find as exciting, however that helped me decide which routes of the animal industry I did and did not want to follow. I found the course structure extremely helpful, as I was provided with the assignment briefs at the beginning of the module. I had plenty of time to develop my academic writing, referencing skills and research skills, with the support of the library team. Throughout the modules there were opportunities to complete formative assignments and receive feedback. This was extremely useful as it denoted areas I had been successful, and areas for improvement. The lecturers challenged me to do my best and really apply myself by doing additional reading and pre-work. Class tutorial sessions allowed opportunities to give feedback of the cohort’s experience to the module leaders, to help everybody get the best experience at NTU. Personal tutorial sessions were important so my tutor knew how I was getting on with assignments and any struggles I was facing so that I could receive the best support. NTU support services are abundant, such as academic help, student finance, mental health and employability (a fantastic resource, especially when searching for year in industry placements and graduate jobs).

Why would you recommend this course to others?

I would recommend this course to others because of the copious opportunities and support and the amazing lecturers. The course covers an array of topics which are all taught very well. The lecturers are massively experienced, accomplished and are extremely knowledgeable. The lecturers are brilliant, and they do their best to encourage and motivate their students to be creative, put in the effort and work hard. In addition to lecturer support, student support services are available for anybody facing any challenges. Course opportunities like field work and field trips are very fun and allow you to attain and develop hard and soft skills.

Any additional comments:

I chose to live on Brackenhurst Campus for all three years of my undergraduate course because I enjoyed everything about it. Living in Brackenhurst student accommodation was a social hub, creating the perfect opportunity to engage and meet other people studying different subjects. The Brackenhurst Campus community is so friendly and fun with Brack Bar and its events every night. For example, quiz nights, sport socials and Fluid, The Orangery for a coffee and a chat with friends, the library for academic support with quiet spaces and group rooms to study. The accommodation team and 24/7 security team are on-site, creating a very safe and helpful feel to Brack.
