The riding instructors are amazing! I feel I really benefit from them as they are great and lovely to be around when teaching.
More about Ellie
Why did you choose to study your course at Brackenhurst?
I have a big passion for horses and a massive love for riding; I've been doing it nearly all my life and want to extend my knowledge at Brackenhurst.
Tell us more about your course. What do you enjoy studying the most?
In my equine course, I enjoy studying equine health as we get to learn about the different types of health issues in depth and its very interesting. My most favourite part is working with the horses on the yard they each have their own personality and are a pleasure to be around, ride and work with.
What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?
I think the facilities are good! In the equine industry we have an indoor and outdoor school so we can ride indoor if its wet or frozen over and the outdoor when its summer and warm. I really enjoy using the mechanical horse as it improves slight mistakes in your riding and you can improve it straight away! I also think the covered horse walker is a great use for the winter especially for equine liveries.
What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What do you get up to in your spare time?
Normally go up to the orangery if we have long enough breaks, if not me and my friends will normally watch some groups have riding lessons or go on walks around the campus.
Have you had any support from other departments? How was your experience accessing these/ was the service helpful?
I have only had one lesson from employability, I feel like they will be very helpful for keeping track of my hours I do and lots more.
What is your top tip for someone considering studying at Brackenhurst Campus?
Bring suitable clothing and footwear depending on weather, I always tend to keep spare clothes, coats and footwear in my locker just in case the weather changes.
Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?
I really love the facilities they offer. The riding instructors are amazing! I feel I really benefit from them as they are great and lovely to be around when teaching. We have only had one trip so far and it was osberton horse trials, i really enjoyed it as it gave us a break from being at college and it was nice to have a day out. The content for the course is so interesting! It's nice to learn new things which improves mine and others knowledge on that topic.
What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has/ will help you to achieve that goal?
I would obviously like to stick with horses; I think this course will help me as it will up my knowledge in the equestrian industry to hopefully get me into the higher jobs such as a physiotherapist as I care for horses health and welfare and want to make every horse feel great in themselves.
