More about Amelia
Why did you choose to study your course at Brackenhurst?
I chose to study at Brackenhurst as they have such a wide range of animals which I can get involved in multiple times through the week. It’s also in the countryside which is perfect for walking around during breaks. Coming to Brackenhurst was the best choice I ever made.
Tell us more about your course. What do you enjoy studying the most?
I enjoy my practical animal classes, this is because we learn about first aid, how to handle animals safely, everything about health checking and more whilst we get involved with all the different animals.
What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?
The facilities are really good, I use the library quite a bit to do some of my assignments. The orangery is great to have a snack or a drink in between classes. Brackenhurst has lots of different walks you can walk as well as gardens which you can spend plenty of time looking at all the different flowers and trees.
What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What do you get up to in your spare time?
The campus is amazing, every time I walk around there is more to uncover. In my spare time I’m either having a walk around the lake or having a quick break in the orangery looking out at the scenery.
Have you had any support from other departments? How was your experience accessing these/was the service helpful?
We have a student support in my class and she’s great because even though she isn’t in there for me but she still helps and makes sure that we understand the work.
What is your top tip for someone considering studying at Brackenhurst Campus?
My top tip for someone would just be to be yourself or to make sure you have a coat in your locker because you never know what the weather will bring.
Have you been involved in any placement, work experience or volunteering as part of your course? If so, what did you do and what did you achieve?
Yes, so I did my work placement at a dog kennels and not only did I make some incredible friends and memories but I also got myself a job there as well.
Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?
I would recommend my course to people because the teachers are all lovely, the course work is also very interesting and you can learn a lot from it and for people who learn hands on, the practical lessons are very fun and important.
What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has/ will help you to achieve that goal?
I either want to do my Level 3 in animal care or I want to carry on working in a dog kennels. To help me achieve this I will hopefully get a distinction from my animal care course or even if I just pass my English exam.
Any additional comments?
Brackenhurst is just brilliant, there is so much to it and everyone is so lovely and welcoming.
