Why NTU…

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose BSc (Hons) Product Design because I was impressed by the employability possibilities. I came from a fine art background and wanted to learn new technical skills that would equip me with skills for the consumer products industry. NTU’s BSc Product Design course provides just that, with teaching in CAD, electronics, metalwork, project management, and so much more.

What did you think about the course staff? How did they support your learning and university experience?

The course staff are very hands on. They go above and beyond for each and every person in the studio. They’re friendly, open and honest - which is the environment you need being in a design studio every week! They are very invested in your progress and have one-to-one meetings regularly to ensure you’re on track.

Have you been involved in any live projects of briefs on your course and, if so, can you talk about one you really enjoyed?

My favourite live brief was ‘The Future of Nike’ project. We considered the future of Nike trainers, researching material innovations and how they may be integrated in the future. The brief was forward thinking, considering crucial elements of design research such as material development, trend forecasting, creative iteration, and fashion innovation.

How would you promote NTU to potential students in 10 words or fewer?

NTU is Industry connected, Award winning, Supportive and Creative.

Placements

Could you please explain more about your placement?

Not began placement yet but have accepted an offer and it commences in June this year.

How did you source your placement? Did you get support from NTU?

I sourced my placement online, I used the LinkedIn group where Chris Jones (School Employability Manager) and Luke Siena (Senior Lecturer in Product Design) post job listings daily.

About the future

What's next for you after NTU?

After the BSc Product Design course, I plan to pursue a creative job role where I can apply my degree skills. I aim to contribute to industries in fields such as consumer products, fashion and art direction.  Our employability team don’t just give advice for a present application, they always look to include the future and what you might require beyond it. They are invested in helping students with all aspects of employability.
