John Grant, BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology
John Grant, a recent graduate of Architectural Technology at NTU, shares his experiences.

Why did you choose to study Architectural Technology at NTU?

I chose to study architectural technology as it was a great middle ground between the design and technical aspects of the built environment. Art was never my strong suit, but my curiosity about how buildings are constructed made this a great choice to learn an improve my skills and knowledge.

I attended many NTU open days and spoke to the lecturers and student ambassadors, which helped me understand the work I would be doing and the opportunities that would be open to me. At NTU, the course is dedicated to making students industry ready by graduation through the opportunities such as placement year, concept day content, and industry-experienced tutors. The course is also accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technology, which opens further future pathways in both knowledge and career opportunities.

Where did you go during your placement year?

During my placement year, I worked as an intern in the design team at Foster + Partners, one of the top architectural practices in London. I worked alongside some amazing people and worked on a range of projects, including a residential project in Dubai, improving my knowledge and skills and gave me an experience I won't forget.

How would you sum up your time at NTU?

I've loved my time at university and I've been able to see the change in my work from my first year to my final review boards. This, alongside the constant support from my lecturers has made my time here unforgettable and, with the addition of my placement year, I could not have asked for a better experience while being at NTU. My plan after university is to hopefully return to Foster + Partners after a little well-deserved break. I'm not worried about going back into the industry as a graduate due to the development I've had while studying here. It has created a solid foundation for me to now build upon.
