More about Alasdair

What do you enjoy most about your course?
“I most enjoy the freedom of creation, being able to engage with a wide range of equipment and workshop facilities. I’m able to experiment with a wide range of materials, aided by professionals who go out of their way to guide you through technical processes."

What made you choose to study at NTU?
“I made my decision to study at NTU because I was already living in The Midlands and I didn’t want a drastic move. When looking at postgraduate study, I considered three other nearby institutions. After attending various open days, I felt that the course here offered the most diverse range of study and just felt right. At NTU you’re able to get involved with a wide range of cultural opportunities and institutions, making Nottingham a vibrant and creative city to study in.”

How do you find the facilities?
“The facilities are fantastic – being able to use professional studio rooms for video and sound recording and a wide array of workshops is a huge strength of the University."

How do you find the course staff?
“I have found the input from the tutors invaluable; they really push us towards standing on our own feet and being prepared for life outside of university. There have been a series of workshops that helped us to engage with the theory of colour; this was such a useful and joyful experience that was made clearer by the tutors. They are very generous with their time and go above and beyond expectations.”

What do you enjoy most about living and studying in Nottingham?
“I love Nottingham. I feel its strength is the amount of artist spaces there are within the city. These deliver a wide range of creative exhibitions and events that have really influenced how I spent my time in the city.”

How do you think the course, and having a postgraduate qualification, will help you progress your career?
“Over the past year, the course has allowed me to exploit opportunities that have developed me as both a person and as an artist. I’m not exactly sure where my postgraduate degree will take me but it has already taken me to places that were previously unattainable.”
