More about Amna

Can you tell us about your project?
“My project is about ‘The emotional connection of a consumer with luxury’. My initial idea was to understand the consumer psyche and the motivational factors behind luxury consumption. The focus of my study is to investigate whether consumers’ emotional bonding with luxury consumption is for personal fulfilment or the lust for social recognition.”

What do you enjoy most about your course at NTU?
“My entire journey being in Nottingham has been incredible; however, the cherry on the cake has to be the study trips which I immensely enjoyed. Not only do these trips help in enriching students’ learning experiences, they also enhance their social and personal development.”

What made you choose to study at NTU?
“I chose NTU over other universities because it offered the exact course I wanted to study, but that was not the only reason. I have to admit I was a bit sceptical at first, but after intensive research and coming across positive student satisfaction ratings and experiences, I decided to give it a shot. Now, I can say without a doubt that I could not have made a better choice. NTU is so warm, student-oriented, and welcoming that you feel like you are not an alien anymore and studying becomes even more enjoyable.”

What do you think about the course staff?
“The course staff are very professional and have an excellent command over their subject area. They are also very helpful and will always be there for you when you need that extra push or guidance. I have always felt very comfortable sharing my concerns on a one-to-one basis with them and have never been hesitant in pestering them with questions.

“My experience with my tutors has been amazing. I feel I have developed a strong bond with them because they always pushed me out of my comfort zone to achieve my best. They taught me how to have a professional approach towards my work and that I should always believe in my work no matter what. The tools that they have injected in me today will stay with me for life.”

What do you think about the facilities available to you?
“NTU provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities and societies that will help you to be more proactive. NTU also has a great international Global Lounge that helps international students to make friends and meet students from their own hometowns. The excellent campus library is another facility where academic support is offered; from English language support classes to how to reference your work. They accommodate you in every possible way making sure your time here becomes the most memorable and worthwhile learning experience for life.”

What do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
“As an international student, it was very hard to leave home and come to an entirely new place. NTU has given me so much that I can’t thank them enough. They not only helped me in settling down, they also brought out the best in me. NTU taught me how to be independent, overcome my fears, believe in myself, and challenged me to push myself beyond my known limits.”

Why would you recommend your course to someone looking to study MA Luxury Fashion Brand Management?
“I feel that my course is very intellectually stimulating as it’s a combination of fashion and business. For someone working or studying in a similar field, they would really benefit from this course as it would help them to develop strong creative and problem solving skills. Also, the course gives you an excellent research project opportunity, and allows you to put your ideas forward in a very creative way.”

How do you think the course, and having a postgraduate qualification, will help you to progress your career?
“As I love research, the course has really given me the ability to progress in further independent learning. It has made me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and has prepared me well in terms of my further advanced research study.”
