After graduation, I returned to River Island as a Buyers’ Admin Assistant. What I most enjoy about my role is working on products from beginning to end. It’s great to see them in store and being worn by customers.

More about Camilla

The successful completion of Camilla's year-long industry placement at River Island secured her a permanent role as a Buyers' Admin Assistant after graduating. Here she tells us about her role and how completing a placement year prepared her for a career in the fashion industry.

What made you choose to study at NTU?
“I always wanted to study at NTU and have grown up with family members in the retail business. Studying BA (Hons) Fashion Management just seemed like the right choice for me, especially with the placement year being so successful in comparison to other universities.”

What was your University highlight?
“One highlight was securing a buying placement at River Island’s Head Office. It’s something I have always wanted to achieve as it enabled me to fully understand the retail industry and how it works. Another memorable highlight was graduating with a group of friends, as we were all able to celebrate our success together.”

How did your placement year prepare you for industry?
“I worked as a Buyers’ Admin Assistant on men’s denim. This was the best choice I made during my time at NTU as it has enabled me to get a job straight away after graduating. Whilst on placement I learnt things you could never fully grasp from reading a book. You also get to understand how the retail industry works, and about the different roles within it. This knowledge also supports you in your final year of university.”

Can you tell us a little bit about your current role?
“After graduation, I returned to River Island as a Buyers’ Admin Assistant. What I most enjoy about my role is working on products from beginning to end. It’s great to see them in store and being worn by customers.

“My main responsibilities involve managing the current placements student, negotiating, sample management, presenting clothing ranges to other departments and general day to day admin to support the team.”
