More about Ellen

What made you choose to study Filmmaking at NTU?
"I choose NTU because of how modern it is. The university is up to date with equipment, which is brilliant considering the course I’m studying. It’s a very interactive school who care a lot about their students."

What do you enjoy most about your course?
"I really enjoy how hands-on Filmmaking is. Not only is it fun, but it prepares students for the future. The lecturers make the course even more enjoyable; every single lecturer is extremely committed to their work and to their students. Having such friendly and talented lecturers makes the course 100% better."

Can you tell us about any projects or trips you have been on so far?
"Recently everyone on the Filmmaking course went away to shoot movies in groups, on location in the Peak District, with actors from Nottingham's Television Workshop. For this project we brought along a group of students from Costume Design and Making, who helped us design all of the costumes worn by our actors. Working with people outside the course was an amazing experience. It was interesting to see what happened when people from different disciplines came together on one project. Learning collaborative skills is very useful, particularly considering the nature of the filmmaking industry."

What is the most valuable thing you have learnt from your course at NTU so far?
"The most valuable thing that I have learnt so far is that working hard will get you very far. If you do your work on time and to the best of your abilities, new opportunities might turn up which will help your future career. NTU is all about preparing you for the future."

What do you think about the facilities available to you, and about Nottingham as a city?
"All of the facilities are wonderful - there is everything that you need. As a film student, the studios are extremely important and all of my needs are met at NTU. The City Campus is easy to get around and both the City and Clifton campuses have amazing libraries. The Student Union holds up to its reputation, too -  it is a great space both for day time activities and nightlife. I love living and studying in Nottingham.Everything is in walking distance and I even feel safe walking at night to the library. There’s always something going on, so I’m never bored. There's just so much choice when it comes to cafes, shopping, and nightlife."

In a nutshell, why would you recommend NTU?
"Filmmaking is an amazing course which offers hands-on practical experience to get you ready for a career after university. For those who love creating, this is the course for you. All of the projects are interesting and help you further your abilities. The entire filmmaking team is wonderful and really take the time to make sure students are excelling and realising their potential. Because it is a smaller course, it is a wonderful environment to make friends. I highly recommend NTU for anyone wanting to study an art and design course."
