More about Jake

Jake Moxon graduate from our BA (Hons) Design for Film and Television degree course in 2013. Here he talks about his experience on the course, and winning an award at graduate exhibition Prime Cuts.

What made you choose to study at NTU?
"The most important factor in choosing NTU was that it was one of the few places that offered a course that seemed perfect for what I wanted to do. I had also heard that Nottingham was a great student town."

What was your first impression of the University?
"I didn't attend an open day but I got to have a look around on the day of my interview. I saw the Waverley and Newton buildings which I thought were very impressive and also had a look around the city. After this visit I knew that NTU was where I wanted to study."

What did you enjoy most about your course, Design for Film and Television?
"I really enjoyed the fact that I was able to study in an environment in which students were encouraged to communicate with each other. This helped massively with the work and made it easier to make some great friends."

Can you tell us about any guest lecturers you really enjoyed?
"There were lots of industry guests that came in to lecture us, as well as help us with your work. I really enjoyed the visits of Ian Fisher and Steve Groves which took place in Year Three, due to the fact that they got to know each student personally and gave a lot of industry relevant help with the projects we were working on at the time."

What do you think about the course staff?
"The tutors were all excellent and very helpful, teaching in a way that was very enjoyable. The vast level of improvement of our Year One work to Year Three work shows how good the tutors were in helpful us to unlock our potential."

Can you tell us about some of the work experience you completed through the course?
"I did work experience on E4's The Midnight Beast and BBC3's Bad Education. I got to work in the art departments of these shows and gained a useful insight into the industry, and it gave me a lot of motivation to make it into the art department myself!"

How did it feel to be named the winner of the Best Production Award at Prime Cuts?
"I was honoured to receive recognition from industry professional for my work at university. I was also very pleased to win £500 which was kindly donated by Farley prop hire."
