Fashion and Textile Management at NTU is known by all prospective employers. I really can't recommend it highly enough.

More about Kerry

Why did you choose to study this course?
"I chose to study this course because it combines all different aspects of the fashion retail industry into one course. Before starting University I wasn't sure which role I wanted to pursue; however, with the help of the diverse creative and technical projects that you work on, it makes you well-rounded for whichever role you end up in."

How do you find studying at NTU?
"You really can't beat the social life at NTU! There are so many different shops, restaurants, clubs and pubs to visit. There is something for everyone!"

Can you tell us about your work placement?
"I worked as an Assistant Lingerie and Swimwear Buyer for George at Asda and was given a high amount of responsibility from day one. My role included setting up meetings, attending weekly fit sessions alongside the garment technologist, monitoring the critical path, approving packaging, and attending photo shoots where needed.

"Your day can change in an instant and I very quickly learnt to be more flexible and adapt to these situations. Communicating with suppliers in China and Sri Lanka on a daily basis has improved my communication skills. Presenting ideas back to senior management has strengthened my confidence and ability to clearly communicate ideas and opportunities."

What was the highlight of your work placement?
"Towards the end of my placement I was given the opportunity to work alongside my designer and buyer to build a category for the SS15 range. This included researching prints, base planning product, negotiating costings, and deciding which suppliers to send the product to."

Has your course involved interacting with industry?
"We are encouraged to join the Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry (ASBCI) and Trend Boutique in Year One. I really recommend this, because you can attend nationwide conferences that you can reference in your project work and it is a great way to network and get your name out there with potential employers who attend these events."

Congratulations on winning the TDA Gwyn Stevenson Award! How did it feel to be recognised as the highest achieving student from your course?
"It is a complete honour to have been presented with this award from the TDA. I was completely shocked when I found out. To graduate from NTU with a degree and all of the memories that go alongside it is enough in itself, but this really was the icing on the cake!"

Why would you recommend studying this course at NTU?
"This course is known by all prospective employers. The emphasis put on helping you find a placement year to suit you is second to none, and all of my course friends have greatly benefited from their year.

"I have found my voice here at NTU. After taking quite a few knocks and picking myself back up again, I now know who I am as a person and what I want to achieve with my life. It has been a truly unforgettable experience."

What are your plans now that you have graduated?
"I am now working for Fatface as a Buyer's Administration Assistant on the Accessories department."
