More about Kitty

BA (Hons) Costume Design and Making now known as BA (Hons) Design for Stage and Screen (Costume Design and Construction).

What made you choose to study at NTU?
"It was one of the only courses that gave the opportunity to design and make, which was really important to me as I enjoyed both and wanted to explore each area further."

What was your first impression of the University?
"I came to an open day and I loved it from the second I arrived. There was a good feeling to the building and the tutors were so friendly and helpful. The student ambassadors were so great to talk to and helped answer all my questions."

What do you enjoy most about your course?
"I've enjoyed working alongside some really talented tutors, designers and makers who have taught me so much, and who care and understand about me as a person rather than just another student."

Have you completed any live projects through the course?
"We were given a live brief to work alongside 60's band Ready Steady 60's on some ideas for their stage outfits. It was really useful to be able to work with the band, bouncing ideas off them and expanding their vision; it taught me a lot about professional practice."

Can you tell us about a guest lecturer that you've enjoyed?
"We had dancer, choreographer and designer Theo Clinkard visit us to speak about his work and how he's carved his way in the industry. What was so interesting about him was that he could speak from all angles being the performer and also the designer, and how this has helped to have a different angle on his work. He inspired me to allow myself to think more creatively and that it's important to have confidence in your work."

How do you find the course staff?
"The course staff are really helpful and seem to have a personal interest in the work, as it's clear it's what they love. Their industry knowledge is so invaluable and is brought to every project we undertake."

What do you like about studying at NTU?
"I like that there is such a variety of courses. We have so many great art courses but there are also degrees in law, business and sciences which mean you meet such a range of people."

Would you recommend Costume Design and Making at NTU?
"Yes! There are a shortage of courses out there which support both design and making and understand the importance of knowing both."

Where do you hope to be in five years' time?
"I hope to be a costume designer and maker for theatre, opera, film or television. I want to explore it all and see where that takes me."
