More about Maia

What made you choose to study Filmmaking at NTU?
"I was particularly interested in studying at NTU because of the opportunities to study abroad during your second year. As well as this, I found it helpful that the course was 100% coursework as I am someone that struggles with exams but excels in coursework. Furthermore, the access to facilities, such as taking out cameras and being able to rent laptops that have relevant software on them, was a great advantage."

What do you enjoy most about your course?
"I love how hands-on it is. For example, in the first term we were able to go and shoot on location in Derbyshire, and there are already trips being planned to go to Rome in 2019 and do some work out there, too! I also love the size of my class as I feel like I get to know the tutors in a more personal way, rather than just being a number in a chair."

Can you tell us about any projects you have taken part in so far?
"I really enjoyed the Derbyshire filming project. We collaborated with Costume Design and Making students, and the ability to work with other Art & Design students, to collectively come together and realise our vision, was a really rare and outstanding opportunity.  I feel like I have got to know not only the people from my course better, but also from other areas of the Art & Design community."

What is the most valuable thing you have learnt from your course at NTU so far?
"When I first started university, people said that first year doesn’t count. This is absolutely not true. Especially when studying a highly coursework-based subject, you need all the time they give you!"

What do you think about the facilities available to you, and about Nottingham as a city?
"The studios are amazing - you can literally create anything in there, especially with the green screens. Most of our workshops take place there. Nottingham is completely different to where I live in London, as it is a city filled with students that bring a certain vibrancy. I am able to meet new people that are around my age, and share the same experiences of living somewhere new."

Why would you recommend NTU to other people?
"In a nutshell, this course is amazing. If you like practical work, and working with industry-experienced tutors, then this course is for you. If you want to join a society than there a hundreds to choose from, too. There really is a space for everyone."
