More about Matt
What made you choose to study Fashion Management at NTU?
“The initial attraction was NTU’s reputation for being an excellent university for fashion related courses. The size of the city, the manageable distance from home and the nightlife were also significant factors!”
What have you most enjoyed about the course?
“The course has been extremely enjoyable, you grow extremely close to your peers and it was amazing to share the experience with them.”
Did the course include any study trips?
“The trips abroad were great, going to the Pitti Uomo trade show in Florence was one of my University highlights. It has become a mecca for mens and womenswear fashion and the city was incredible. You get a huge amount of independence and freedom in your free time. We explored a lot and many of us jumped on a train and went to Pisa to see the leaning tower.”
What did you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
“I am from London, which is huge and incredibly expensive compared to Nottingham. Nottingham is a compact city with everything you need just a walk away. Everything is cheaper, from rent and gym membership, to dinners out and bars.”
Can you tell us a bit about your placement year?
“I worked as a product development assistant at Timberland in the soft accessories department. I worked in a small close-knit team. We took the designers’ sketches, then worked with factories from across the world and developed the sketches into the products you see in store. It was an incredible experience, I learnt a huge amount from the team about fashion, business and work life, and I made friends that I will stay in contact with for a long time to come. It gave me a wealth of experience within a huge company and certainly made me more employable.”
Finally, congratulations on securing a role at Kurt Geiger! Can you tell us a little bit about this?
“I work as a buyers admin assistant for menswear external brands and can see myself staying here for a long time. I work with a variety of huge brands on a daily basis in a fast fashion environment which makes the role extremely exciting and fresh.
“I found out about this role by simply browsing around brands where I like to shop and exploring their careers pages. I saw an entry level buyers role and sent over my CV. Being able to speak in my interviews about my industry experience at Timberland and all the knowledge I gained from the course was invaluable.”
