More about Rebecca
What made you choose to study at NTU?
"I started off studying Fashion Design at a university in Scotland, but realised I wanted to specialise in Fashion Knitwear. After some research and viewing NTU graduate work at Graduate Fashion Week, I decided to change course and apply for knitwear at NTU."
Did you come to an open day?
"Yes I did. I knew it was a big step to change courses and move from Scotland to Nottingham, so I wanted to be sure the course was right for me and what I was looking for. The open day was fantastic, getting to speak to students and lecturers from the course was really valuable."
What do you enjoy most about the course?
"I think the course is fantastic, and it's hard to pin point what I most enjoy. Learning how to create and knit your fabrics as well as construct it into a fashion garment really gives students a special niche.
"The course is really well structured, giving students a chance to be creative but also understand how to be commercial and prepare us for industry. The mix of lectures and practical sessions really provides you with a varied skillset.
"The Year Two trip to yarn trade fair Pitti Filatti in Florence was definitely a highlight and the placement year we can undertake during Year Three is such as valuable experience to learn and prepare for working in industry."
What do you think about the course staff?
"I really appreciate the support I have received from the staff on the course. The lecturers, tutors and technical staff have all worked in industry and have varied expertise.
"We have weekly tutorials with our tutors and peers, so you are always receiving feedback on your work and know which direction to go in."
What do you think of the course facilities?
"The studios and workshops are excellent and we have domestic, industrial and power knit machines and the use of yarn from the yarn store. We also have a great CAD lab with friendly and helpful IT staff.
What do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
"I love the fact that the campus is located in the city centre and everything is relatively close to each other. Nottingham is a great city to study in and the student night life is fantastic with so many different venues and club nights."
Why would you recommend your course?
"I have experienced studying in another university and I have never enjoyed myself more than at NTU.
"The course is so varied and you are always motivated and have projects that stimulate your creativity. Everything NTU offers from campus facilities, societies and student support is exactly what someone moving away from home for the first time really needs."
