More about Basel

What inspired you to choose NBS and your course?

I chose Nottingham Business School because of its strong reputation in finance and employability, as well as its practical approach to learning. The MSc Economics, Banking and Finance course aligned perfectly with my interest in investment banking, consulting, and financial strategy.

What motivated you to pursue a postgraduate qualification, and what were you doing before starting the course?

Before my postgraduate degree, I completed my undergraduate studies in Business Management and Entrepreneurship at NTU. I wanted to deepen my financial and analytical knowledge to prepare for a career in consulting and finance.

What was the most valuable or enjoyable aspect of your course, and why?

The most valuable aspect was the practical exposure to real-world financial analysis, risk management, and econometrics. I also enjoyed collaborating with international students and learning from lecturers with industry experience.

Did you take part in any projects, work placements, extra‑curricular activities or experiential learning opportunities? What skills or experience did you gain?

I participated in finance and consulting-related experiences including investment banking training programs and networking events with industry professionals. These opportunities strengthened my analytical, presentation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

What is your current role, and what does a typical day involve?

I am currently the Founder of an educational consulting agency supporting students across multiple countries with university admissions and career guidance. Alongside this, I previously worked in management consulting at PwC Middle East Dubai on public sector finance and economic advisory projects. My work involves strategic planning, client communication, partnership development, financial analysis, and supporting students and organisations with growth opportunities.

Which skills or experiences gained at NBS do you use most in your role?

I regularly use financial analysis, communication, research and presentation skills developed during my studies at NBS. The international learning environment also helped me build confidence working with diverse clients and teams.

What has been your biggest career achievement so far?

One of my biggest achievements has been working with PwC Middle East in Dubai on public sector finance and economic advisory projects, while also building my own educational consulting business supporting students internationally.

What advice would you give to someone considering this course at NBS?

Take advantage of every opportunity outside the classroom, including networking, internships, and student societies. The course provides a strong academic foundation, but your initiative and involvement will make the biggest difference to your career.
