This course provides a comprehensive understanding of economic theories, financial principles, and banking practices, preparing students for careers in the finance industry, government agencies, and academia. It also offers opportunities for students to gain practical experience through internships, industry collaborations, and research projects.

Additionally, NTU provides excellent resources and facilities for students, including state-of-the-art libraries, research centres, and sports facilities. What is your favourite thing about your course?

Have you had the option to personalise your course? How has this benefitted your studies?

Personalising a course can provide students with the opportunity to tailor their learning experience to their interests, goals, and career aspirations. By choosing to focus on a particular area of study, students can deepen their understanding of the subject matter and gain specialized knowledge and skills that can be valuable in their future careers.

For example, in the case of the MSc Economics, Banking and Finance course, choosing to focus on risk management can provide students with an in-depth understanding of the principles and practices involved in managing financial risk. This can prepare them for roles in risk management departments of banks and financial institutions, or for careers in consulting or regulatory agencies.

How have you found Nottingham as a student city?

Nottingham is an excellent student city. It is well connected and the universities are well-regarded. It has a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and other attractions, making it a great place to live and study. The city is also very affordable, so it is a great option for students on a budget. There are plenty of green spaces, parks, and outdoor activities, so you can always find something to do. All in all, Nottingham is a great student city with plenty to offer.

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

Young, welcoming and diverse.

Did you find it easy to make friends at NTU?

Yes, I found it very easy to make friends at NTU. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, and there were plenty of social activities and events that made it easy to meet people. I also found that joining a student group was a great way to make friends and get involved in the local community.

What’s next for you after NTU?

After NTU, I plan to pursue a career in risk management, investment banking, and finance in a big firm. I have already started taking steps to build my knowledge and experience in these areas, such as attending seminars and networking with professionals in the industry. I am confident that my hard work and dedication will help me reach my career goals in the future.

What do you think of the support available at NTU?

I think the support available at NTU is excellent. My course staff were always helpful and accommodating, the student support services were always there to provide assistance when needed, and the Employability team was great for getting advice on jobs and internships. The global lounges also provided a great place to meet and socialise with people from all over the world.

Has the Employability team helped you plan for life beyond NTU?

Yes, the Employability team have been extremely helpful in helping me plan for life beyond NTU. They have provided me with advice on how to create a successful career plan, set realistic goals and develop my skills and experiences to make the most of my time at NTU. They have also connected me with employers and mentors to help gain a better understanding of the current job market and given me access to a range of resources such as CV workshops and job search advice.

How is NTU for international students?

NTU is a great university for international students. It has a diverse student body from all over the world and offers a variety of support services for international students. These services include specialized advice for visa application and immigration issues, language support, and access to cultural activities and events. The university also has an International Student Support team who are available to help with any queries you may have.

Why did you want to study in the UK?

I wanted to study in the UK because of the high-quality education and world-renowned universities. I was also attracted to the UK's vibrant culture and the opportunity to experience a different way of life. Additionally, I wanted to be part of a university which had a strong research focus, and the UK has some of the best universities in the world for research.

What made you choose to complete a postgraduate qualification?

I chose to complete a postgraduate qualification as I wanted to further my knowledge in my chosen field and gain more skills that would help me in my professional life. A postgraduate degree can also open up more opportunities in terms of job prospects and career development.

A postgraduate qualification also allows me to develop a deeper understanding of the subject and enhance my research and analytical skills.

What made you choose to remain at NTU to complete these studies?

I chose to remain at NTU to complete my postgraduate studies because I had already established myself here and had positive experiences with the university. I was familiar with the courses, the university facilities and the support services available to students. I was also attracted to the university's research focus and the opportunity to work with experienced academics and practitioners.
