More about Chloe

Chloe Bouzoud is a 21 year old BA (Hons) International Business with Spanish student.

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi! My name is Chloe and I am a final year student. I am originally from France but I am also half-British. I decided to come to England for my higher education studies because after having lived all my life in France, I was ready for a change of scenery.

I have definitely not had the typical university experience, as I started my studies during the pandemic and then moved to Spain for not one, but two years. I chose to study the Dual Award course in International Business with Spanish at NTU because it is a course that isn't widely available and the idea of being able to greatly improve my Spanish skills was attractive to me.

Outside of my studies, I enjoy travelling and the opportunity to experience new cultures. I think that travelling is an immersive and multifaceted experience that goes beyond mere sightseeing. It has the power to shape individuals, broaden their horizons, and contribute to an enriched and fulfilling life.

What has stood out about NTU and Nottingham Business School?

What has stood out the most to me about Nottingham Business School (NBS), is its commitment to providing a high-quality business education, and fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment through innovative teaching methods and a strong connection to industry practices.

Additionally, NBS offers a vast and diverse range of opportunities to enrich our global perspective. It has plenty of international study programs and internships throughout the world, various networking events, and overall, lots of support to make your international experiences amazing. NTU kept in contact with me during my entire time in Valencia - always making sure everything was going well and offering excellent advice to any problem I might have. The support provided to me during my time abroad played a vital role in making my experience so memorable.

Studying and working abroad is something I would absolutely recommend to other students. Not only does it allow you to improve your cultural exposure, language proficiency and global networking, it also helps in terms of personal growth, career opportunities and diverse work environments. It is also overall just an amazing experience to go have.

How would you rate the course facilities and why?

The course facilities at NBS are designed to provide students with the best learning environment. The school is equipped with modern lecture theatres and seminar classrooms that enhance the delivery of course content. Collaborative spaces such as group study rooms and project workspaces, to foster teamwork creativity among students. As well as a library that offers an extensive collection of resources, both in print and online, but also great services such as workshops or sessions with academic mentors to take your academic skills to the next level.

Did your course include any speakers or lecturers from industry?

Throughout my time time at NBS, I have been lucky to benefit from a broad selection of guest speakers and lecturers that have provided me with real-world insights and valuable perspectives beyond theoretical knowledge.

As a final year student preparing to begin a career and applying for graduate jobs, my favourite guest lecture was "Seven ways to get rejected" by Angus Carr. As an employer experienced in recruitment, Angus provided us with the seven most common mistakes made during the employment process such as not proofreading everything you send, not trying to understand things from the employer's point of view, and even not making sure you are presentable. This really helped me gain a better understanding of what to do as I start my career, and something I have already started to apply!

What is your favourite thing about your course?

My favourite thing about my the International Business with Spanish course is definitely the fact that I was able to go to Spain for two years. My experience in Spain has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally, helping me to develop fundamental skills such as cross-cultural communication, language, resilience and adaptability.

Have you had the option to personalise your course and experience at Nottingham Business School? How has this benefitted your studies?

In my final year, I have been given the option to choose one of my modules. I have decided to study Digital Customer Experience. I have chosen this module as it is most in-line with the career path I plan to follow. The option to tailor our course, especially in final year, is great because it enables us to develop specialised skills and expertise, and prepares us for our future career.

Can you tell us a bit about your experience of studying / working abroad? Would you recommend it to other students?

As part of my course, I spent two years in Valencia, Spain, at the University of Valencia. In Valencia, I also had the opportunity to complete a six month internship. Studying and working abroad is something I would absolutely recommend to other students. Not only does it allow you to improve your cultural exposure, language proficiency and global networking, it also helps in terms of personal growth, career opportunities and diverse work environments. It is also overall just an amazing experience to go have.

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

Diverse, charismatic and colourful.

How have you found Nottingham as a student city?

Nottingham is an excellent student city. The city is culturally rich, with numerous theatres, galleries, and music venues. There is also a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops, providing students with a offering a diverse and vibrant range of options for entertainment and leisure. Transportation here is great, with buses, trams, the railway station, and easy access to the East Midlands airport.

Did you find it easy to make friends at NTU?

Making friends at university is often a concern for students and to help with that NTU provides a variety of opportunities for socialising and meeting people such orientation events, clubs, societies, and social activities. Being open to new experiences, attending social gatherings, and participating in group projects or study sessions are often a great way to building friendships. But not being afraid of stepping out your comfort zone is key!

Support at NTU is amazing. Everyone is always happy to help you achieve your best. Overall, the support services provided by NTU are extensive and brilliant, and you will always find someone to help guide you through your academic journey.

What's next for you after NTU?

I am currently applying to graduate jobs in Business Management and Marketing and I hope to eventually pursue a career in Sports Management and Marketing. I am positive that the skills and knowledge I have gained during my time here at NTU will greatly help me in my future career. I believe that my International Business studies combined with my international experience in Spain have allowed me to develop the abilities to succeed.

Has the employability team helped you plan for a life beyond NTU?

The Employability team has been absolutely amazing! They have given me advice, helped me apply to graduate jobs, checked my CV and cover letter, and prepared me for assessment centres. Having to start applying to graduate jobs so quickly after returning from Spain has been a concern of mine, but the Employability team's help has made the whole process a lot less stressful.
