More about Kobby

Kobby studied the BA (Hons) Business Management and Marketing course.

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose to study at NTU as I found the Business Management and Marketing course very appealing, giving me in-depth insights of the management aspect of business and the marketing side. Being able to study both in one degree is something that really enticed me.

Another reason why I chose to study at NTU is due to location. Nottingham lies in the heart of East Midlands and is such a student-friendly city. It was easily commutable for me to come back home to London with the journey being three and a half by coach or train.

What has stood out about Nottingham Business School?

What stood out for me about Nottingham Business School is the amazing help and guidance that is provided by the business school.

Being able to contact and speak with members of staff that work at MyEmployability getting 1-2-1 help on my CV, and being able to attend different career guidance fairs that I was lucky enough to have the opportunity of being apart of. Nottingham Business School really do engage with students and try and give us the personal and professional development, equipping us with skills ready to face the real world.

Nottingham is the epitome of a student friendly city. For myself, when moving back home to London I actually had second thoughts of staying to live in Nottingham after I graduated!

What is your favourite thing about your course?

My favourite thing about studying Business Management and Marketing for me has to be the authenticity of the course and obviously when studying at university there are going to be modules you prefer over others but I really appreciate that my course had a fine balance in terms of the summative assessments.

A couple other favourite things about my course is being able to thrive and be my most authentic self. A big shoutout to my course leader Sophie Johnson who put my name down allowing me to deliver the final "Vote of Thanks" speech at my graduation ceremony & to Reu, Samia & Deshaun for allowing me to be apart of the Black Leadership Programme as a mentor and having the opportunity to meet HRH Princess of Wales at the World Mental Health Day.

How would you rate the course facilities and why?

I'd rate the course facilities highly. Newton building on city campus has various lecture and seminar rooms inside the building. You can borrow laptops and bring them back the next day if there is pressing assignments you have due and on the ground floor you can sit either on chairs or booths to relax, catch up with course mates or do a bit of work.

The schematics and interior of the building is top notch and is definitely vibrant when the sun shines on the Newton building on the outside.

Have you taken part in academic mentoring? What has this role involved?

I have taken part in academic mentoring, whilst studying at NTU I was a student mentor within the Black Leadership Programme.

This pertained to me supporting a group of 100 students ranging from first to third year students in community building sessions. I contributed to the promotion of the Black Leadership Programme by supporting on and off-campus activities to encourage students to apply and increase awareness of the programme's benefits and working closely with the Black Leadership Programme Team to contribute ideas and suggestions for developing and improving the programme using my previous experience as a participant.

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

Social, vibrant and home.

How have you found Nottingham as a student city?

Amazing! Nottingham is the epitome of a student friendly city. For myself, when moving back home to London I actually had second thoughts of staying to live in Nottingham after I graduated!

What's next for you after NTU?

I am currently almost finishing a six week summer internship programme as a Marketing and Business Development Intern at Clyde & Co which is a law firm that is ranked top 10 in the United Kingdom & Northern Ireland.

During my time I have created presentation reports for Senior Business Development Managers, Managed & Highlighted Growth Accounts, MNCs & Key accounts that Clyde & Co work with using Excel and I have done a bit of social media marketing for Clyde & Co touching on my experience as an intern that will go on the firm's social media accounts (Instagram, TikTok & Snapchat).
