More about Oliver

Why did you decide to do postgraduate study?

“Universities across the country are growing in numbers, with students being able to study across nations, so I thought it would be essential to undertake a higher qualification to stand out. I also wanted to develop my skills and take on a new challenge by studying something new after studying Coaching and Sports Science for my undergraduate degree. This should show that I can transfer skills from one degree to another.”

What made you choose NBS?

“NBS will always have a place in my heart, from being a student, staff and now a student again I have loved every part of the NBS community. NBS really put the student experience at the front of all their new ideas and developments and that really shows. Nottingham is also a brilliant city for students, its vibrant, sociable and with a variety of activity to be able to do in the city centre – so you will never get bored!”

What do you enjoy most about your course at NBS?

“It would be hard for me to say just one reason, the staff are great, the contact time is enough, and the support is there. With my course, I like the structure of the teaching time and assessment dates. They really try and make it fair and spread submission dates to maximise success for students on their course. It makes it far more enjoyable and less stressful than I thought it would be initially!”

What do you think about the course staff? How do they support your learning and University experience?

“I couldn’t say a bad word about the staff members at NBS. I have been lucky enough to work with staff members across all departments and it has been a pleasure to work with them all. It really had a positive impact on my university experience because it gave me the confidence to ask questions which I may not have done if staff members were not as approachable. All departments from schools, student services, catering and facilities have always got a smile on their face which really comes across and makes NBS a lovely environment to be a part of.”

What do you think about the facilities available to you?

“Within my 5 years at University, I started at the Clifton campus which has now been transformed with state-of-the-art equipment and lecture theatres. The laboratory’s over there are always being developed and made safer and modern, which makes learning the course easier and more enjoyable. What is impressive is I think there is plenty of study spaces which are available to students – however, the University is always looking to see where improvements can be made. The facilities are modern, spacious and clean, making it a nice environment for your studies, so I can’t complain. In addition, having the City library open 24/7 really is useful if you’re behind on coursework and need to catch up!”

Why would you recommend your course / NTU to someone looking to study in that area?

“If you are looking to develop your skills and learn from experts in the field NTU is a brilliant place. They make the content engaging and try and lay the course out to make it as accessible and easy to understand for everyone. In addition, Nottingham Business School put regular support sessions on near deadlines and lectures from professionals really giving you an insight into the industry you want to pursue.”

What do you believe sets Nottingham Business School apart?

“The support you receive from the Business School is what sets them apart and that can go further than just academically, they really care for your wellbeing and even if you needed support other than academically the Business School would do everything to help.”

What has been your greatest achievement at NTU so far?

“This was a tough one, as University has made me mature and given me responsibilities that I would never have come across if I didn’t go University. I have been successful for the Students Union and NTU Futsal winning a variety of awards however for my course specifically, I would say receiving a distinction on my 1st assignment.”
