More about Oscar

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose NTU because of the modern facilities, student presence in the city and high ranking for my undergraduate course (journalism). I have stayed on as a postgraduate as the university has exceeded my expectations and my new course excited me when I came for a postgraduate open day.

What made you choose to complete a postgraduate qualification?

I thoroughly enjoyed studying journalism at undergraduate level, but the range of different modules helped me realise what kind of field I want to work in. I enjoyed the more creative aspects of my course, such as producing a public relations campaign. This led me to pursuing a masters in marketing, specifically advertising and marketing communications.

Following your undergraduate degree, what made you choose to stay at NTU for your postgraduate studies?

I have a lot of friends still at NTU, with a large majority returning from placement years, which I did not do. So there is still a sense of familiarity as a lot of the people I have been with for the past three years are at still around the campus. I also love the location of the city campus and the modern facilities available.

What has stood out about Nottingham Business School?

The tutors are very knowledgeable and are always open to questions. There are so many opportunities for extra learning, networking and much more which helps students to stand out to employers.

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

Welcoming. Active. Community.

How have you found Nottingham as a student city?

As a student based on city campus, everything is so close together. Over my four years at NTU, the longest walk I have had from my home to campus is 15 minutes, with the shortest being five minutes. There are so many students constantly throughout the city, giving a great sense of community.

Did you find it easy to make friends at NTU?

Yes. There's so many ways to make friends at NTU, whether it's your university halls in your first year, your course mates, societies, sports clubs or friends of friends. It's important to remember everyone is in the same position when moving to university, so don't feel like the odd one out - go and say hello to people.

What do you think of the support available at NTU?

The Employability team are extremely helpful, with a great website available 24/7 with advice on everything from writing cover letters to working abroad. The advice on cover letters and CVs has helped me land part-time roles during my studies, and 1-on-1 meetings with the team have been very helpful when I have needed advice.

What’s next for you after NTU?

I want to land a position on a graduate scheme, allowing me to work in some different roles within marketing. This will help me decide which role I would like to work in after the scheme.
