Job Title: Business Consultant
Company Name: Broad Street International, Nigeria

Background

I chose MSc Management and International Business because my bachelor degree was in Economics and I had worked in the banking sector for almost 6 years. I decided to choose Nottingham Trent University because I was impressed with the course content, the student support team and the university ranking.

Nottingham Business School

The university stood out to me because of the accredited courses and the facilities available on the city campus. I am positive this course will give me a leading edge in the competitive job market because the course is tailored to have a real world focus so there are plenty of opportunities to gain a wide range of transferable skills.

Also I was privileged to attend a lot of guest talks and events which broadened my skillset such as the Thinkubator Challenge where the schools industry links benefitted me through the interface with businesses during the experience, and I was lucky to attend the summer school in Lisbon, Portugal.

I felt the combination of Management with International Business was a good fit for me given my background in Finance and Economics. The knowledge gained from this course relates to business strategy, research methods and management best practices which will serve me well in my future career.

Facilities

I was impressed with the Newton and Arkwright buildings during my first visit. I found the library, especially its online interface (NOW), to be a key resource in enabling me to study effectively. I used NOW all the time, to check my results, monitor my student engagement and keep up with what was happening. It’s very useful!

Involvements and Achievements

Firstly, I would say graduating with a distinction was a significant achievement. But I would also place my Summer School experience in Lisbon and my participation in the Nottingham Parliament Day as also very important moments for me. The postgraduate community in Nottingham has exceeded my high expectations.

As a result of my studies I have changed my career plan as I came with the intention to gather transferable skills to take back to the banking industry, but my love for research has prompted me to consider a career in academics.

There is so much I can say about my time here but in a nutshell it was a life changing experience. In fact, I made a PowerPoint presentation of my experience at the Nottingham Business School which I presented to the September 2016 MSc Management cohort, to share my willingness to help other students and my dedication. My happiest memory at NTU was my trip to Lisbon where I made friends from different cultures.
