More about Ellie
What inspired you to study PGCE Further Education and Skills at NTU?
"I finished my degree in Music Performance at NTU in 2022. I worked in a school for a while before taking a job at Confetti as a Maths teacher where I completed the level 3 Award in Education and Training , but it was important to myself and my employer that I fully qualify by completing a PGCE .

What’s your experience been like of your course so far?
"I think being able to link theory to practice has been really valuable and allowed me to progress as an educator. I also think having other trainees to discuss ideas with and receive feedback from has been very valuable, and makes our time in the classroom a supportive environment for professional development."
How have you found your placement experience so far?
"I was employed by my placement, Confetti, before starting the course , so I was already familiar with the way my department was run. I could not be happier with my mentor and the supportive team I am surrounded by."
How has this course helped you prepare for your time on placement?
"The course jumps straight into all the different elements of the profession including theories of learning and professional practice, which I think is really important in preparing us for placement. I like the fact that we are in placement very early on, but eased into teaching with the support of our mentor and course tutors.
The feeling of changing a learner’s perspective on my subject or supporting someone to achieve something they previously struggled with is incredibly rewarding . Towards the end of last year I received an email from a parent that I had changed her son’s opinion of Maths, which was a big moment for me. That student achieved a grade 4 in the summer."
What do you think of the support available from tutors and staff at NTU?
"I have found the Further Education and Skills team reliable and responsive; they are very willing to answer any questions."
Did you find it easy to settle in at NTU? Do you feel like part of a community?
"I feel really at home at NTU, especially as I studied my undergraduate degree with them, and there’s always loads going on at all the different campuses and the students’ union. I enjoy studying at Clifton, the campus is lovely and such a welcoming environment."
What are your plans after you graduate?
"My plan is to continue teaching at my placement college. I would like to travel in the summer in between, so I am also applying to work as a camp counsellor in America."
