More about Alex

Why did you choose NTU and Nottingham Law School?

NLS had a good reputation, and combined with its very competitive cost, made it a very enticing opportunity. Equally, it is one of very few universities which offers the opportunity to study and gain an LLM in Environmental Law.

Why did you choose postgraduate study at NTU?

Being situated in the middle of the city makes it a vibrant place to be, alongside easy to get to especially as I did not live in Nottingham. NTU also offered good opportunities outside of academics with its sports and music opportunities.

What inspired you to study law?

I chose to study law after first encountering it as a subject area during my undergraduate degree in History (Shari’a Law and Medieval Carolingian Law). The reading and discussions where always interesting thus leading me to consider further delving into the subject area. Equally, my future career plans mean knowledge of law is a useful tool without necessarily practicing it as a Solicitor.

What do you enjoy about your course?

The lecturers where engaging and friendly, thereby generating a nice learning environment during seminars. Seminar discussions where often interesting and conducive to generating new ideas and perspectives.

What marks out of 10 would you give for course facilities and why?

I would give the Law School a 8/10. It was a nice environment with good lighting, clean and feeling of airiness, with good spaces to sit and chat.

How would you promote NTU to potential students in 10 words or fewer?

NTU is an interesting, engaging and rewarding place to be.

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

Historic, community, fun.

Where would you recommend visiting in Nottingham?

National Water Sports Centre with opportunities for nice walks or many different activities away from the City Centre.

If you have a (non-academic) problem. Who would you talk to? What would you do?

I would talk with friends, family or if needed the Welfare Team who were always happy to talk.

Finally, is there anything else you’d like to share?

Always make time to explore the places and opportunities that present themselves to you as at some point you’ll no-longer have that chance. Nottingham and NTU have a lot to offer!
