More about Harsh

Since graduating with my undergraduate degree in LLB International Law, I have embarked on an exciting journey of postgraduate legal studies at NTU, combining my interests for the environment and law together. Postgraduate study is quite different; it is a lot more independent and a lot more analytical, but I am using the skills I developed throughout my undergraduate studies. The Opportunity Bursary played a crucial role in helping me develop the confidence and skillset I now rely on, enabling me to pursue accomplishments that will shape my future.

One of my most significant recent achievements was attending COP16 in Colombia as one of the UK’s first official youth participants. This incredible experience deepened my understanding of global environmental governance and reinforced my commitment to advocating for biodiversity and climate justice.

My involvement with the Environmental Law Foundation and the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) emerged from the connections I cultivated during my final year. Conversations with my lecturers, engagement with NLS Legal, and talking with a friend who was already part of the network further sparked my interest in this area. There was an opportunity to establish a UK chapter of GYBN, and I expressed my enthusiasm for engaging youth in biodiversity and policy. We only started 6 months ago, but taking on this initiative has already been incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. While postgraduate studies keep me busy, I still find time to be outdoors as it is both a mental refresh and a way to connect with nature, grounding my academic pursuits.

The Opportunity Bursary directly supported the activities that brought me to this point. It allowed me to attend workshops, network with professionals, and even undertake trips related to my hiking and outdoor interests. These experiences enhanced my leadership skills and passion for collaboration, which I brought to COP16 and my postgraduate work.

Looking forward, I see my path in environmental law as a direct continuation of the journey I began at NTU. The foundation I built during my undergraduate years, supported by the bursary and enriched by my extracurricular activities, has empowered me to take meaningful steps toward creating a more sustainable future for myself and others.
