More about Harry
"I am entering the third year of my course in LLB Law. My brother and I were the first in our family to attend university and, for me, this represents the opportunity of a lifetime. Coming to university was a chance to access a new world, both academically and socially, and to connect with a diverse range of people. Over my first two years at NTU, I have unlocked a wide range of opportunities, that would not have been possible without the resources and staff dedicated to supporting students with initiatives like the Opportunity Bursaries.
"I have been playing the piano for around eight years and, once I realised I qualified for an Opportunity Bursary this year, I used this money to pay for music lessons. The arts programs and facilities at the university are wide-ranging and extensive; such as the state-of-the-art NTU Music Centre on our City Campus. I was grateful for the opportunity to advance my skills further with a highly capable and talented teacher, in a way that fit easily alongside my studies.
"My friends and family this year have noted how my playing improved while attending music lessons; something I can confidently attribute to the incredible teaching I received. The benefits I gained from this aren’t just the improvements in my piano skills, when exams and other academic commitments become stressful, music also provides a valuable outlet which is extremely beneficial for my mental health.
"The Opportunity Bursary is an important part of NTU’s outreach towards those from diverse backgrounds; ensuring that extracurricular opportunities can be truly accessible to all. Each student spends their bursary differently; some of my peers have used the funding for memberships of sports teams, instrumental lessons, public speaking classes, and learning a new language.
"I want to say thank you to anyone who has already donated or is considering supporting the NTU Student Endowment. Recipients all benefit immensely from your interest and generous contributions."
