Summer Schools

Our exciting summer school programmes will help you to develop an international perspective on legal practice.

All Nottingham Law School students have the chance to take part in our international summer school scheme and get a real taste of the profession from a European perspective. Each of our courses has a different legal focus and whether you want to explore International Criminal Justice in Berlin, or International Humanitarian Law in Geneva, there is something for every area of interest.

The Summer School programmes usually take place in July. For more information on how to apply please see the 'How to apply' section below.

Why take part in a Summer School?

  • Immerse yourself in a new culture, meet people from different universities around the world.
  • Develop key skills and experiences to add to your CV to impress future employers.
  • Increase your knowledge in and around your chosen subject.
  • Develop an international perspective on legal practice.
  • Students will receive a certificate of attendance following successful completion of the summer school.

Geneva: International Humanitarian Law

Sunday 7 July  – Saturday 13 July 2024

This Summer School has a focus on International Humanitarian Law, giving you an awareness of the work of:

  • The United Nations
  • The Red Cross
  • The World Trade Organisation

Berlin: International Criminal Justice

Saturday 20 July – Saturday 27 July 2024

You will learn about the history and development of international criminal law, from the historic Nuremberg and Tokyo trials in the aftermath of World War II, through to the establishment of the permanent International Criminal Court.  You will have the chance to engage with practitioners at the International Criminal Court and understand the challenges faced by lawyers working in this area.

The visit to the important world organisation (the UN) was a very good experience, but what I liked the most was the teaching sessions after it where we studied the organisations in a detailed way and and discussed the drawbacks and positive points about them. It really gave me a fresh perspective. The teachers were amazing!
