During this course delegates will be able to learn and develop the skills of thorough case analysis and preparation to enable appropriate decisions to be made on plea, preparation for trial, trial tactics, witness orders, witness examination [examination in chief and cross examination] as well as possible legal arguments. This will be done by considering a simple case study.

This online introductory course for new advocates will concentrate on the first principles of vulnerable witness handling in the criminal courts.

Pleadings: First Principles and Practice (Civil)

During this course delegates tackle drafting statements of case in the civil courts from first principles. Delegates analyse the case to arrive at a case theory and develop this as a basis for the structure of Particulars of Claim. Analysis of Particulars of Claim leads to development of a case theory and structure for a Defence and Counterclaim. Delegates’ skills are then developed further, in the context of a case study, so they are able to draft competent, precise, and concise statements of case.

Vulnerable Witness Handling (Civil): Principles and Practice

This online introductory course for new advocates will concentrate on the first principles of vulnerable witness handling in the civil courts. Whilst the principles of vulnerable witness handling have been mandated in the criminal for some time, the position was only formalised by CPR Practice Direction 1A.
